The AAAS David and Betty Hamburg Award for Science Diplomacy honors individuals or small groups in the scientific, engineering, or foreign affairs communities who have made outstanding contributions to advancing science diplomacy. This annual award celebrates those whose work bridges science, evidence-based decision-making, and diplomacy, significantly promoting international cooperation, peace, and human rights through scientific collaboration. Recipients are recognized for elevating the role of science in foreign policy and for building stronger links between scientific and diplomatic communities. The award was first established in 1992 and renamed in 2021 to honor the legacy of David and Betty Hamburg.
