The Mass Media Science & Engineering Fellowship is a highly competitive, 10-week summer program that places advanced undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral students in science, engineering, mathematics, or related fields at leading media organizations across the United States. Fellows work as journalists, collaborating with professionals at outlets such as NPR, Los Angeles Times, Scientific American, and more, to research, write, and report on scientific topics for the general public. The goal is to strengthen scientists’ ability to communicate complex ideas to non-specialists, improve media coverage of science, and build a professional network between scientists and journalists. Nearly 900 fellows have participated over the program’s 50-year history.
