The ABA-FAER Research in Education Grant is a collaborative initiative between the Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research (FAER) and the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA). This grant aims to advance knowledge and best practices in anesthesiology education, particularly in areas such as curriculum development, instructional methods, and assessment strategies. Special emphasis is placed on research evaluating the value and impact of ABA certification programs—including initial certification, the Maintenance of Certification in Anesthesiology (MOCA), and the staged examination system (BASIC, ADVANCED, APPLIED Exams). Projects that address diversity, equity, and inclusion in these domains are especially encouraged.
The program is intended to provide an outstanding research experience for anesthesiologist faculty interested in graduate medical education and physician lifelong learning. The grant recipient will have access to ABA resources (including de-identified data and mentoring) and may spend up to two weeks annually at ABA headquarters.
