The ABEM Emergency Medicine Fellowship, administered by the National Academy of Medicine, provides early-career scholars in emergency medicine with a unique opportunity to participate in evidence-based healthcare or public health studies aimed at improving patient care and access within domestic and global health systems. Over a two-year period, fellows remain at their primary academic or research institution while dedicating 10–20% of their time to work with a health- or medicine-related board at the National Academies. The program includes an orientation to health policy, participation in the NAM Annual Meeting, and active involvement in board activities, such as contributing to reports and projects. Each fellow is paired with a senior NAM member as a mentor and is introduced to a network of policy leaders, government officials, industry leaders, and health professionals. The fellowship aims to foster integration between medicine and public health and to support the professional development of future leaders in emergency medicine.
