The ABEM Emergency Medicine Fellowship is one of ten National Academy of Medicine (NAM) Fellowships for Health Science Scholars. It is designed for early-career academic professionals specializing in emergency medicine who are seeking to participate directly in evidence-based health care and public health studies conducted by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. Fellows contribute to impactful research and policy work, expanding their professional networks and development while shaping the future of emergency medicine and public health.
Fellows remain at their primary academic/research post but are assigned to a health- and medicine-related board of the National Academies. They engage in relevant study committees or roundtables, contribute to reports and products, attend a one-week orientation to health policy, and participate in the NAM Annual Meeting and board meetings. Each fellow is paired with an NAM member as a senior mentor.
