The Academy Medal is a prestigious honor awarded by the Australian Academy of Science to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the advancement of science and technology in Australia, primarily through public service, advocacy, or leadership, rather than through direct scientific research. The medal is intended for those outside the Academy's Fellowship who, through sustained efforts in the public domain, have significantly promoted the cause of science or made substantial contributions to the Academy itself. Recipients are selected by the Council upon the proposal of the President, and the medal is awarded no more than once every three years, except in milestone anniversary years when up to three may be awarded.
