The DOE plans to announce funding for projects that develop and scale up new chemical technologies using alternative feedstocks to boost U.S. manufacturing, supply chain resilience, and environmental safety.
Funder: Golden Field Office
Due Dates: September 14, 2026
Funding Amounts: Anticipated total funding: $58M | Award duration: 2–4 years (Bench ASPECT), 2–5 years (Pre-Pilot ASPECT)
Summary: Supports R&D and scale-up of technologies for producing chemicals from alternative and waste feedstocks to enhance U.S. supply chain resiliency and manufacturing.
Key Information: This is a Notice of Intent; the actual NOFO may differ or may not be issued.
This Notice of Intent (NOI) announces the potential upcoming funding opportunity "Accelerating Scale-up and Pre-piloting of Emerging Chemical Technologies (ASPECT)" from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Golden Field Office, on behalf of the Alternative Fuels and Feedstocks Office (AFFO). The ASPECT program aims to support research, development, and scale-up of innovative processes for producing chemicals from alternative and waste feedstocks. The goal is to improve the domestic supply chain, reduce costs and environmental impacts, and foster new market opportunities for both conventional and bio-advantaged chemicals.
The program is expected to address two main topic areas:
Projects should offer clear performance, cost, or national security advantages, and must involve at least one for-profit industry partner on the project team.
