Description
This program, administered by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) Division of Public Health, funds projects aimed at the primary prevention of adolescent pregnancies across North Carolina. Supported projects must replicate evidence-informed models to reduce first pregnancies among adolescents, emphasizing comprehensive, medically accurate sexuality education on all FDA-approved contraceptive methods and abstinence. The initiative also seeks to foster academic achievement, parent/teen communication, responsible citizenship, and self-confidence among youth. Grantees are required to establish both Community Advisory Councils and Youth Leadership Councils to ensure meaningful youth and community engagement throughout the grant cycle.
