Description
This postdoctoral research opportunity at the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Nondestructive Evaluation (NDE) Laboratory is designed for researchers interested in the intersection of structural monitoring, artificial intelligence, and digital infrastructure. The selected researcher will join a multidisciplinary team to:
- Develop and validate methods for integrating structural monitoring (SM) results into digital twins of transportation infrastructure.
- Integrate AI and machine learning algorithms with sensor data to enable predictive modeling of structural performance and deterioration.
- Design frameworks for real-time data integration to empower proactive infrastructure management.
- Support the development of Industry Foundation Class (IFC) OpenBIM-based digital twins for highway assets, enhancing bridge management, visualization, data fusion, and risk forecasting.
The program aims to advance FHWA’s vision of connected, intelligent infrastructure by delivering open-source tools, data models, technical papers, and prototype digital twin modules for highway components.
