--- ## Description The program supports fundamental research on the physical and chemical processes occurring from the mesosphere to the outer reaches of the thermosphere and throughout the Earth's ionosphere. Key areas include ionization, recombination, chemical reactions, photo emission, and the transport of energy and momentum within and between these atmospheric regions. Research is also supported on the coupling of these layers to the stratosphere below and the magnetosphere above, and on plasma physics phenomena in the coupled ionosphere-magnetosphere system, including the effects of high-power radio wave modification. The program encompasses the Coupling, Energetics, and Dynamics of Atmospheric Regions (CEDAR) initiative, which aims to understand atmospheric changes across various timescales by integrating observations with theoretical and empirical modeling.
