--- ## Description The Algorithms for Threat Detection (ATD) program, a partnership between the Division of Mathematical Sciences (DMS) at the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency (NGA), funds foundational research to develop advanced mathematical, statistical, and computational algorithms for analyzing large-scale spatiotemporal datasets. The program aims to support projects that improve the detection and understanding of dynamic human activity patterns and identify potential threats using quantitative models and near real-time data analysis. Research areas of interest include, but are not limited to: - Innovative algorithmic approaches for scalable, rapid, and reliable analysis of massive spatiotemporal data. - Mathematical theory for applying advanced artificial intelligence to geospatial and temporal data, including computer vision, large language models, and neural networks. - Techniques for anomaly detection, uncertainty quantification, model reliability, distributed sensing, edge computing, and cybersecurity. - Transdisciplinary collaborations that bridge mathematical sciences with engineering, natural, and socio-behavioral sciences. Special consideration is given to high-risk, high-reward proposals and creative, ambitious research directions. --- ## Due Dates - February 19, 2025 (full proposal deadline) - Third Wednesday in February, annually thereafter --- ## Funding Amount - Estimated total annual program funding: $3,000,000 - Expected number of awards: 10–20 per year - Typical award size: $150,000 to $300,000 per award - Award type: Standard Grant or Continuing Grant - No cost sharing or matching required --- ## Eligibility Proposals may be submitted by: - **Institutions of Higher Education (IHEs):** Accredited two- and four-year institutions (including community colleges) with a campus in the U.S., acting on behalf of their faculty. - *International branch campuses of U.S. IHEs must justify the benefit and necessity of work being performed abroad.* - **Non-profit, non-academic organizations:** Independent museums, observatories, research laboratories, professional societies, and similar U.S.-based organizations directly associated with educational or research activities. - **Tribal Nations:** Federally recognized American Indian or Alaska Native tribes, bands, nations, pueblos, villages, or communities.
