--- ## Description The Allan M. Smillie Scholarship is awarded annually by the Ohio Valley Member Chapter of the Association for Iron & Steel Technology (AIST). This scholarship aims to encourage academic achievement and foster the next generation of professionals in fields relevant to the steel industry, particularly in STEM disciplines. The program is designed to support students within the Ohio Valley region who demonstrate potential and involvement in areas directly related to iron and steel production, management, or supporting industries. --- ## Due Dates - April 30, 2026: Completed applications due (annual deadline) --- ## Funding Amount - One scholarship of $5,000 is awarded annually. - The award is for one academic year. - Recipients may reapply in subsequent years for continued support. --- ## Eligibility - Applicants must be either: - The child (including step-children, adopted children, or wards) of a member in good standing of the AIST Ohio Valley Member Chapter, **or** - An AIST Student member in good standing. - Must be accepted into, planning to attend, or currently enrolled in a full-time curriculum at an accredited university, college, or technical training center in the Ohio Valley chapter area. - Field of study must be directly related to the production or management of iron and steel, or supporting industries. - STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Bachelor of Science degrees are preferred. - Bachelor of Arts degree candidates in related fields (e.g., manufacturing management) and Associate of Science degree candidates in STEM-related technology are also eligible. --- ## Application Process Applicants must submit the following by the deadline: - Completed application form (available on the [AIST Ohio Valley Member Chapter Scholarships page](https://www.aist.org/students-faculty/scholarships/member-chapter-scholarships/ohio-valley)). - Current resume, including work experience and extracurricular activities (noting leadership roles). - Recommendation or evaluation from a counselor, teacher, or professor. - Essay (maximum two pages) describing professional goals, interest in a steel industry career, and how the applicant’s skills could benefit the industry. - Copy of current high school or college transcripts.
