The American Brain Foundation’s Next Generation Research Grants support early-career investigators conducting research to better understand, treat, and cure brain diseases. Offered in collaboration with disease-focused partner organizations, this two-year award funds preclinical, clinical, or translational projects addressing disease mechanisms, diagnosis, treatment, or prevention. Research should have potential relevance to more than one condition, reflecting the foundation’s Cure One, Cure Many philosophy that breakthroughs in one area can accelerate progress across others.
Topics of particular interest include mental health and neuropsychiatry—depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, and addictions—women’s health, prevention and resilience, and Alzheimer’s and dementia. The program values scientific rigor, clinical impact, translational potential, committed mentorship, and career development toward research independence. It also supports research incorporating broad perspectives and study populations reflecting the full spectrum of people affected by brain disease.
