Funder: American Cancer Society
Due Dates: June 1, 2025 (Full Application) | March 17, 2025 (Letter of Intent) | October 2025 (Award Notification)
Funding Amounts: $250,000 total direct costs over 2 years; no indirect costs allowed.
Summary: Supports research to improve the efficiency, access, and representativeness of cancer clinical trials through technology, specifically requiring use of Flatiron Clinical PipeTM for EHR-to-EDC data transfer.
Key Information: Projects must use Flatiron Clinical PipeTM; special consideration for multi-institutional studies at sites without current installation.
Description
This opportunity, jointly offered by the American Cancer Society (ACS) and Flatiron, aims to accelerate cancer research by supporting projects that implement, utilize, or study the impact of technology to advance the conduct of cancer clinical trials. The focus is on improving access, representativeness, and efficiency in clinical trials, with a particular emphasis on the use of interoperable technology for data capture and transfer.
Projects must incorporate the use of Flatiron Clinical PipeTM, an EHR-to-EDC (Electronic Health Record to Electronic Data Collection) solution, to transfer study data for one or more cancer clinical trials. The grant does not fund the clinical trials themselves, but rather research on the impact of technology on trial conduct. Special consideration is given to multi-institutional projects at sites that do not currently have Flatiron Clinical PipeTM installed; Flatiron will assist with installation if needed.
Example research topics include:
- Impact of electronic data transfer on research staff effort, data entry time, productivity, and satisfaction
- Effects of EHR-to-EDC technology on data quality, timeliness, accuracy, and completeness
- Modeling technology’s impact on study timelines and costs
- Feasibility of deploying EHR-to-EDC software in multi-institutional trials
- Change management for migration from paper to electronic workflows
The ultimate goal is to improve the evaluation of new treatments, increase patient access to studies, and promote better health outcomes.
