The Claytor-Gilmer Fellowship, established by the American Mathematical Society (AMS), honors the legacies of Dr. William S. Claytor and Dr. Gloria Ford Gilmer—pioneering African American mathematicians. This fellowship aims to inspire and support mathematicians who have contributed to a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive mathematics community, with a particular focus on advancing the participation, retention, and success of Black mathematicians. The program recognizes both formal and informal contributions, such as mentoring and role modeling, and is part of AMS’s broader commitment to addressing historical inequities in mathematics.
