Summary: A leadership program supporting underrepresented public health professionals through immersive work experiences to advance health equity in vulnerable communities.
The APHA and Kaiser Permanente Community Health Leadership Program is a year-long fellowship designed to develop a pipeline of diverse leaders in public health. The program supports early-career professionals with advanced public health degrees from select partner universities, focusing on individuals from underrepresented backgrounds—including first-generation college graduates, those from lower socioeconomic backgrounds, and members of Black, African American, Asian, Hispanic, American Indian, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander, and other communities of color. Fellows are placed with Kaiser Permanente or its partners to work on projects addressing upstream determinants of health such as housing, food security, economic opportunity, education, racism, environmental health, and healthcare access. The program is managed by the American Public Health Association and funded by the Kaiser Permanente National Community Benefit Fund at the East Bay Community Foundation.
