The Appalachian Foodways Practitioner Fellowships, administered by the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation in partnership with Grow Appalachia of Berea College and the Appalachian Studies Association, recognize and support individuals in Central Appalachia who have made significant contributions to preserving and sustaining their communities' food heritage. The program honors tradition bearers such as home cooks, bakers, seed savers, farmers, community elders, recipe keepers, hunters, and foragers. Fellows receive both a monetary award and a unique physical award crafted by an Appalachian traditional artist, and are celebrated at the Appalachian Studies Association Annual Conference. This initiative is part of the Central Appalachia Living Traditions program.
