    Description

    This research associateship supports a postdoctoral researcher to develop and apply advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) techniques for transportation safety and operations. The position focuses on leveraging recent advancements in communications, connected vehicle technologies, edge computing, and data analytics to enable real-time, data-driven decision-making for traffic management and control. Priority research areas include:

    • AI-powered methods for network-wide traffic data acquisition
    • Enhanced traffic pattern prediction and adaptive operations
    • Development of transportation-specific AI models
    • AI-enhanced Cooperative Driving Automation algorithms

    The associate will work onsite at the Turner-Fairbank Highway Research Center (TFHRC) in McLean, VA, collaborating with federal and contractor staff. The program aims to address current gaps in integrating AI/ML with transportation domain knowledge and to develop scalable, adaptive solutions for traffic management.
