--- ## Description The APS-NEH Sabbatical Fellowships, offered by the American Philosophical Society and funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities, provide mid-career and senior scholars with sabbatical support to complete a significant book project. Fellows spend six or twelve months in residence at the APS Library & Museum in Philadelphia, which houses premier collections documenting the American Revolution, the history of science, and Indigenous languages and cultures. The fellowship is designed to offer uninterrupted research time in a rich archival environment, leveraging the APS’s extensive resources and research centers. --- ## Due Dates - Anticipated full application deadline: February 2026 *All dates are projected based on the annual cycle; check the program page for updates.* --- ## Funding Amount - Stipend: $5,000 per month - Duration: 6 or 12 months - Total support: Up to $30,000 (6 months) or $60,000 (12 months) --- ## Eligibility - Open to mid-career and senior scholars in all fields who have completed formal professional training. - Not open to degree candidates or those seeking support for work toward a degree. - Candidates for advanced degrees must have completed all requirements (except conferral) by the application deadline. - Foreign nationals are eligible if they have been U.S. residents for at least three years immediately prior to the application deadline. - Fellows must be in regular and continuous residence at the APS during the fellowship and may not accept teaching assignments or other major activities during the award period. - Fellows may hold other major fellowships or grants during tenure, except for other concurrent NEH-funded grants. --- ## Application Process - Applications are submitted online via Interfolio. - Required materials: - Curriculum Vitae (C.V.) - Research proposal (2–4 pages) describing the work to be undertaken during the fellowship - Writing sample or sample chapter (no more than 25 pages, double-spaced) - Two letters of reference supporting the project and applicant - Selection is based on scholarly qualifications, the significance of the project, and its fit with APS collections.
