The Archaeological Field School Scholarships, offered by the Archaeological Institute of America (AIA), provide financial support to students participating in their first archaeological fieldwork experience. The scholarships are intended to help cover expenses associated with joining an archaeological field school of at least four weeks’ duration. Several tracks are available, including the Jane C. Waldbaum Archaeological Field School Scholarships, Laura Obolensky Scholarships (for fieldwork in Eurasia and the Middle East), and the American School of Prehistoric Research Scholarships (for sites in the eastern hemisphere occupied before the mid–first millennium BCE). The AIA encourages applications from students of all backgrounds, particularly those majoring in archaeology or related fields, and supports reasonable expenses related to the care of dependents or elderly family members.
