Funding Amounts: $2,000 monthly for local-region artists; $3,000 monthly for artists outside the region; one to three months
Summary: Supports professional artists creating new work grounded in on-site research in the Lloyd Library and Museum’s collections.
Key Information: Recipients must conduct research-related work at the Library at least 20 hours per week during residency.
The Lloyd Library and Museum’s Artist-in-Residence program funds professional artists to create work based on research in its collections in Cincinnati, Ohio. The residency connects creative practice with on-site exploration of materials covering botany, medicinal botany, ethnobotany, natural history, early travel and exploration, the history of science, medicine and pharmacy, and medical and pharmaceutical illustration.
Projects must produce artwork, a website or a video, along with a public lecture or other presentation addressing both the work created and the research process. The Library may collaborate with an artist on an exhibition after the residency, but an exhibition is not an acceptable application deliverable. Residencies last one to three months, with research and artistic production forming connected parts of the project.
