The NEA Arts and Artifacts Domestic Indemnity Program supports U.S. nonprofit museums and organizations in presenting temporary exhibitions of art and artifacts within the United States by providing federal indemnity coverage. This program reduces or eliminates the need for commercial insurance for eligible objects owned by U.S.-based entities, thus enabling institutions to mount ambitious exhibitions that might otherwise be prohibitively expensive due to insurance costs. The program is administered by the National Endowment for the Arts on behalf of the Federal Council on the Arts and the Humanities (FCAH). Coverage is limited to U.S.-owned objects and is designed to facilitate public access to significant cultural, historical, and scientific works.
