The NEA Arts and Artifacts Indemnity Program (International Indemnity) enables U.S. nonprofit museums and organizations to obtain federal indemnity coverage for art and artifact exhibitions involving objects loaned from abroad or sent overseas. This program significantly reduces insurance costs and increases access to historically and culturally significant works. The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) administers the program on behalf of the Federal Council on the Arts and the Humanities (FCAH), which reviews and approves indemnity agreements. Indemnity is backed by the full faith and credit of the U.S. government, covering loss or damage to eligible objects during approved exhibitions.
