Asset Inventory and Assessment Grants support North Carolina water and wastewater utilities in inventorying and assessing infrastructure so they can manage assets and plan financing more proactively.

Description
The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Water Infrastructure administers Asset Inventory and Assessment grants to help utilities understand their water and wastewater systems. Funded work can include asset inventories, condition assessments of critical assets, and other components of critical-asset assessment. The goal is to give utilities information they can use to manage infrastructure and plan its financing more proactively.
The grants were created through changes to state law in Session Law 2015-241. Applications are prioritized in part on whether the proposed work addresses a utility’s pressing challenges and whether the resulting information is likely to support effective, ongoing infrastructure management.
