--- ## Description This award recognizes outstanding projects, groups, or individuals who deploy digital technology in innovative ways within the field of archaeology. Areas of achievement may include excavation, research, teaching, publishing, or public outreach. The goal is to celebrate and encourage creative, ethical, and impactful uses of digital tools that advance archaeological scholarship and public engagement. By highlighting exemplary digital work, the award aims to inspire best practices, inclusivity, and collaboration across the discipline. --- ## Due Dates - September 15, 2026: Nomination submission deadline for the Award for Outstanding Work in Digital Archaeology --- ## Funding Amount - This is a recognition-only award; there is no monetary prize attached. - Awardees are honored at the AIA Awards Ceremony and publicized through the Archaeological Institute of America. --- ## Eligibility - Nominations are open to projects, groups, or individuals who have demonstrated innovative use of digital technology in archaeology. - Nominations may be submitted by anyone, including self-nominations by project directors or principal team members. - Collaborative projects are encouraged. - **At least one member of the leadership team, or any individual nominee, must be a member in good standing of the Archaeological Institute of America (AIA).** The nominee’s AIA membership number must be included with the nomination. - The committee reserves the right not to give the award if no deserving project is nominated. --- ## Application Process - Complete and submit the [nomination form](https://www.archaeological.org/programs/professionals/grants-awards/applications/digital-archaeology-award/) by the deadline. - Required materials include: - Name of the project - Project URL (if available) - Project description (max 300 words) - Project goals (max 100 words) - Brief project history (max 200 words) - Intended users (optional, max 100 words) - Significance for the field of archaeology (approx. 300 words) - Usage statistics since publication/launch (optional) - Funding sources and parameters (optional) - Recognition already received (optional) - Future plans (max 200 words) - Plans for archiving, maintenance, and sustainability (max 200 words) - Name, address, contact info, and position of project director(s) - AIA affiliation for project director(s) - Nominator’s name, position, and email - The committee reviews nominations in October, with decisions approved by the AIA’s Governing Board.
