The Barrick Scholar Awards are internal faculty honors at UNLV, funded by an endowment from Marjorie Barrick, designed to recognize and encourage outstanding scholarly and creative contributions. Awards are made in two categories: the Barrick Distinguished Scholar Award (for faculty with 10 or more years of academic service post-terminal degree) and the Barrick Scholar Award (for those with fewer than 10 years). Recipients are selected based on the extraordinary quality and quantity of their research publications or creative achievements, following recommendations from a committee of former awardees. The program aims to elevate the national and international reputation of UNLV through faculty excellence.
