The Berlin Prize Fellowships, offered by the American Academy in Berlin, provide approximately two dozen semester-long residencies each year for accomplished individuals in the arts, humanities, social sciences, law, journalism, and public policy. The program’s mission is to strengthen cultural and intellectual ties between the United States and Germany by supporting advanced independent study, creative work, and public engagement in Berlin. Fellows benefit from a vibrant interdisciplinary community, professional networking, and opportunities to present their work to German and international audiences. While projects do not need to focus on Germany, applicants should articulate how the Berlin residency will enhance their work. The Academy especially welcomes projects addressing pressing contemporary issues such as democracy, technology (including AI), climate change, public health, and American political economy.
