Summary: Supports development and validation of innovative biomarkers for Alzheimer's disease and related dementias with a focus on clinical utility and translational potential.
Key Information: Only direct costs are allowed; no indirect/overhead costs permitted.
This opportunity funds research focused on advancing the development and validation of established and novel biomarkers for Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. The program prioritizes biomarkers with a defined context of use, a clear advantage over existing biomarkers, and a well-articulated path toward commercialization or clinical application. Areas of emphasis include PET ligands, CSF biomarkers, advanced MRI approaches, and novel functional activity measures (such as EEG). High-priority biomarker targets include neuroinflammation, synaptic integrity, autophagy, TDP-43, neuronal loss, vascular injury, mitochondrial function, protein misfolding, oxidative stress, white matter changes, Lewy body dementia, and other targets with strong biological rationale. The goal is to support biomarkers that can demonstrate target engagement for therapeutics, detect disease earlier, monitor progression, and distinguish between dementia subtypes.
