The Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) FY25 Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr. Hate Crimes Program provides funding to support efforts by state, local, and tribal law enforcement and prosecution agencies, along with their partners, to address hate crimes. The program aims to enhance outreach, educate practitioners and the public, improve victim reporting tools, and strengthen the investigation and prosecution of hate crimes motivated by a victim’s perceived or actual race, color, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, or disability.
