Grants fund projects that survey, process, and digitize archival materials, as well as the development of exhibitions, digital projects, and community events. The program also fosters a community of practice among grantees, promoting knowledge sharing and best practices in managing Black visual archives. The ultimate goal is to increase public engagement and enable new scholarship on the vital, often underrecognized achievements of Black artists in the United States.
