Funder: National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL)
Due Dates: February 2, 2025 (Next due date)
Funding Amounts: Approximately $275,000 via Cooperative Agreement
Summary: This program trains communities and utilities on safely operating and responding to issues with grid-scale energy storage systems.
Key Information: Focuses on enhancing community safety and preparedness for Energy Storage Systems deployment and incident response.
The Blue-Sky Training Program for Grid Scale Energy Storage Systems is designed to improve community safety and readiness in localities deploying or planning to deploy grid-scale energy storage technologies. As energy storage systems become more prevalent, it is critical that utilities and communities understand how to operate these systems safely and respond effectively to security threats or unexpected failures.
This program emphasizes bringing together all necessary stakeholders to ensure that new or existing energy storage systems operate reliably and safely. It addresses the current uncertainty in many areas regarding proper response procedures to incidents involving energy storage, which can otherwise delay or prevent deployment.
The training aims to prepare communities to be "storage ready," reducing risks and enhancing the reliability of energy infrastructure.
