Description
The Foundation Fighting Blindness Brint Family Translational Research Award funds milestone-driven, preclinical translational research projects aimed at accelerating the development of innovative therapies for inherited retinal degenerations (IRDs) and dry age-related macular degeneration (dAMD). The program supports projects advancing from lead optimization through IND/IDE-enabling studies, with a strong focus on moving promising interventions toward clinical translation. In addition to financial support, awardees receive strategic guidance and mentorship in drug development, regulatory strategy, intellectual property, and commercialization.
Projects must align with one of three research priority areas—Genetic Technologies, Novel Medical Therapies, or Restorative Therapies—but research outside these areas may be considered with strong justification and preliminary data. The program encourages multidisciplinary approaches and is open to academic investigators, companies, and non-U.S. applicants.
