This supplemental funding opportunity from PCORI aims to advance the science of engagement in research by supporting the development and validation of robust measures that capture the structure, context, process, and outcomes of engagement throughout the research lifecycle. Engagement refers to the meaningful involvement of stakeholders—including patients, families, caregivers, and the broader health and healthcare community—as partners in all phases of research, from planning and conducting studies to disseminating results.
The initiative addresses significant gaps in how engagement is defined and measured, and seeks to build an actionable evidence base that identifies effective engagement methods and tools. Projects should focus on creating or validating measures that can be used to monitor, evaluate, and improve engagement practices in patient-centered comparative clinical effectiveness research (CER).
Only current PCORI Broad Pragmatic Studies (BPS) awardees who receive an invitation based on performance and eligibility criteria are permitted to apply.
