--- ## Description This opportunity provides funding for states, federally recognized Indian Tribes, Alaska Native Regional Corporations, and Alaska Native Village Corporations to conduct brownfield assessments and related planning. The program supports the development of brownfield site inventories, prioritization of sites, community engagement, site assessment, and the development of site-specific cleanup and reuse plans. Funds are not available for actual site cleanup activities. Brownfield sites are properties where reuse, redevelopment, or expansion may be complicated by the presence or potential presence of hazardous substances, pollutants, contaminants, petroleum, or mine-scarred land. The intent is to facilitate the safe and productive reuse of these sites, improve community health, and stimulate economic development. --- ## Due Dates - Application Deadline: **January 28, 2026, 11:59 pm ET** - Anticipated Notification of Selection: June 2026 - Anticipated Award Notification: September 2026 --- ## Funding Amount - **Total estimated funding:** $35,000,000 - **Expected number of awards:** ~18 - **Award ceiling:** $2,000,000 per applicant (lower requests are allowed) - **Project period:** Up to 5 years - **No cost-sharing or matching required** - **Administrative costs:** Limited to 5% of total EPA-requested funds --- ## Eligibility Eligible applicants are: - **States:** State agencies under direct control of the governor or other elected executive officials (e.g., environmental, transportation, health, commerce agencies) - **Federally recognized Indian Tribes** (except those in Alaska, with the exception of the Metlakatla Indian Community) - **Alaska Native Regional Corporations and Alaska Native Village Corporations** (as defined by the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act) - **Intertribal consortia** comprised of eligible Tribes - **Note:** State and Tribal universities/colleges are not eligible under this opportunity (but may be eligible for other EPA Brownfields grants) **Ineligible applicants:** Individuals, for-profit organizations, and non-501(c)(3) nonprofits. Applicants may submit only one application per eligible State agency or Tribal Nation.
