--- ## Description This opportunity from the EPA Office of Brownfields and Land Revitalization provides funding for the cleanup of brownfield sites—properties where reuse or redevelopment is complicated by the presence or potential presence of hazardous substances, pollutants, or contaminants. The program aims to clean up these contaminated properties to enable their sustainable reuse, improve community health, and stimulate economic development, particularly in communities historically affected by environmental contamination and disinvestment. Cleanup Grants support direct costs associated with the remediation of brownfield sites, as well as programmatic management, community engagement, and limited health monitoring activities. Awards are made as cooperative agreements, which involve substantial EPA oversight and collaboration throughout the project. --- ## Due Dates - **Full Application Deadline:** January 28, 2026 (11:59 PM ET) - **Anticipated Notification of Selection:** June 2026 - **Anticipated Award Notification:** September 2026 --- ## Funding Amount - **Maximum award per applicant:** Up to $4,000,000 - Applicants may request up to $500,000 for one or multiple sites, or between $500,001 and $4,000,000 for one or multiple sites. - **Estimated total program funding:** $107,000,000 - **Expected number of awards:** Approximately 36 (with ~26 awards in the $500,001–$4,000,000 range) - **Project period:** Up to 4 years - **Cost sharing/match:** Not required --- ## Eligibility Eligible applicants include: - General purpose units of local government (e.g., cities, counties, towns, districts) - Land clearance authorities or quasi-governmental entities under local government supervision - Government entities created by state legislatures - Regional councils or groups of local governments - Redevelopment agencies chartered by a state - States - Federally recognized Indian Tribes (with some exceptions for Alaska) - Alaska Native Regional and Village Corporations, and the Metlakatla Indian Community - Nonprofit organizations (including 501(c)(3) organizations and nonprofit educational institutions) - Limited liability corporations/partnerships comprised solely of eligible nonprofits - Qualified community development entities **Key requirements:** - Applicants must own the brownfield site(s) by January 28, 2026. - Only one Cleanup Grant application per applicant is allowed in this cycle. - Sites must meet the federal definition of a brownfield and not be subject to certain federal enforcement actions or listed on the National Priorities List. - Individuals and for-profit organizations are not eligible.
