Key Information: Projects must be implemented within the California side of the Lake Tahoe Basin.
The California Tahoe Conservancy’s Senate Bill 630 Science and Lake Improvement Account grants fund nearshore aquatic invasive species control and public lake access projects. Eligible work includes planning, site improvements or reconstruction on public land, and land acquisitions from willing sellers. Public access projects must improve access to Lake Tahoe’s shore: the bed and banks of the California portion of the lake up to the high-water mark of 6,229 feet.
The account receives fees collected by the California State Lands Commission from lakefront property owners using state lands, including pier supports and buoy anchors. The Conservancy is one of three state agency recipients of this funding. Its grants advance the restoration and enhancement of the Basin’s natural and recreational resources, with attention to Strategic Plan consistency, stakeholder collaboration, and work that directly results in, leads to, or informs on-the-ground improvements.
