The California Sea Grant State Fellowship Program offers a 12-month professional opportunity for recent graduate students interested in California’s coastal and marine resources and the policy decisions affecting them. The program is modeled after the national Knauss Marine Policy Fellowship and aims to build capacity in ocean and coastal management agencies while developing the next generation of leaders in these fields. Fellows are placed with host organizations—including municipal, state, or federal agencies, as well as research and conservation organizations—where they gain hands-on experience in resource policy, planning, and implementation. Host organizations are expected to provide substantive mentorship and professional development for fellows, while fellows contribute to the host’s mission and projects.
