--- ## Description This funding opportunity supports two U.S.-based interdisciplinary research teams as part of a cross-border Cardiac Arrest Research Teams (CART) Network, launched by the American Heart Association in partnership with the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. The CART Network aims to address critical gaps in cardiac arrest research by fostering collaboration, resource sharing, and innovation in three priority areas: prediction and early detection of cardiac arrest, accelerating response and increasing survival, and optimizing brain recovery after cardiac arrest. Each funded team will develop three required cores: Data Sharing & Management, Knowledge Mobilization, and Training & Capacity Development. The initiative emphasizes a holistic, patient-centered approach, stakeholder engagement, and equitable access to advances in cardiac arrest care and recovery. --- ## Due Dates - **Required pre-proposal (letter of intent):** December 16, 2025 (by 3:00 PM CST) - **Full proposal (by invitation only):** March 17, 2026 (by 3:00 PM CDT) Pre-proposal submission is required to be eligible for full proposal invitation. --- ## Funding Amount - **Total per team:** Up to $1,700,000 USD over four years - **Annual maximum:** $425,000 USD - **Number of awards:** Two U.S. research teams will be funded - **Eligible costs:** Personnel, technical staff, project expenses, equipment, travel, required meetings, publication, and up to 10% indirect costs (each year, at sponsoring/subcontract institutions) --- ## Eligibility - **Institutions:** U.S.-based nonprofit institutions (universities, medical/dental/veterinary/public health/pharmacy/nursing schools, public/voluntary hospitals, etc.) - **Principal Investigators:** All Co-PIs must be independent researchers with a faculty or staff appointment at an eligible U.S. institution. - **Team composition:** Each team must include: - An initiating Co-PI (at the administering institution) - 1–3 additional Co-PIs (early or mid-career researchers required) - A Core Lead for each of the three required cores (may overlap with Co-PIs) - **Degree:** All Co-PIs/Collaborating Investigators must hold an MD, PhD, DO, DDS, DVM, or equivalent - **Effort:** Each Co-PI must commit at least 10% effort - **Citizenship/visa:** U.S. citizen, permanent resident, pending permanent resident, or eligible work visa (E-3, H1-B, O-1, TN, G-4; see RFP for details) - **Other:** Applicants may serve as Co-PI on only one team; Co-PIs may participate in other teams in different roles.
