Description
The Kansas Department of Commerce administers Commercial Rehabilitation through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program, using federal funding allocated by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The program assists private property owners with rehabilitation of downtown structures resulting in a commercial business. Its goals connect commercial building revitalization with increased downtown activity and business growth.
Eligible work includes building rehabilitation construction that creates or retains jobs, exterior improvements that eliminate conditions detrimental to public health and safety on a blight spot basis, asbestos hazard abatement, and rehabilitation of property designated as blight in a downtown commercial district. Cities and counties apply for funding; private property owners are the intended beneficiaries of the rehabilitation assistance.
