Description
The Kansas Department of Commerce administers Community Facilities: Large Grants through the federally funded Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program. Cities and counties can propose CDBG-eligible facility projects that deliver impactful, long-term improvements to community services and quality of life, principally benefiting low- and moderate-income residents.
Supported work includes public facility renovations, libraries, construction of nonprofit childcare centers, large parks, infrastructure upgrades, and public safety enhancements. Associated administrative, engineering, and architectural services are also eligible. The program emphasizes substantial improvements serving whole communities and strengthening community engagement, safety, and health. One project example is the renovation of an unused church building in Hillsboro into a childcare center.
