The Simons Foundation and Simons Foundation International are launching a program to fund eight to ten Centers of Excellence (CoEs) in Ukraine, aiming to foster research excellence and international collaboration in basic science and mathematics. Each CoE will function as an academic unit with ambitious research and training programs in computational, data-driven, and theoretical basic science, as well as mathematics. In exceptional cases, proposals may include experimental or observational science components. The initiative seeks to create sustainable research communities, benefit local institutions (especially young researchers), and stimulate partnerships with leading institutions outside Ukraine. Deliverables are expected to be high-quality research outputs disseminated through open-access and peer-reviewed journals.
