Description
The Simons Foundation and Simons Foundation International aim to strengthen basic science and mathematics in Ukraine by funding eight to ten Centers of Excellence (CoEs) through a competitive open call. Each CoE is envisioned as an academic unit with robust research and training programs in computational, data-driven, and theoretical basic science, as well as mathematics. Proposals may also include experimental or observational science as a supplement in exceptional cases.
Centers are expected to:
- Produce high-impact, peer-reviewed research.
- Disseminate results via open access.
- Serve as hubs for nearby institutions, fostering scientific exchange and mentoring young researchers.
- Build strong international partnerships, especially with institutions prioritizing basic science and mathematics.
- Have a clear plan for sustaining research and attracting future funding beyond the grant period.
