Funder: UK Research and Innovation
Due Dates: July 7, 2026
Funding Amounts: Up to £11.3 million total for one UK centre; 4-year duration; 100% of eligible costs covered (non-FEC, no estates/indirect costs).
Summary: Funds a national centre to develop commercialisation and entrepreneurial skills for UK quantum researchers, supporting translation of quantum research into economic and societal impact.
Key Information: Only one application per organisation as lead; no studentships or direct research funding; focus is on skills and capability building.
This opportunity supports the establishment of a UK Centre for Quantum Commercialisation Skills, a strategic initiative by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) under UK Research and Innovation (UKRI). The centre will serve as a national hub to build commercialisation, entrepreneurial, and translational skills among quantum researchers at all career stages.
The centre will provide coordinated, sector-specific training, placements, early-stage research accelerators, ideation activities, and tailored courses in commercialisation, intellectual property, and innovation strategy. Its goal is to bridge the gap between quantum research and real-world application, equipping researchers to identify market-driven opportunities, generate and protect intellectual property, form and scale spin-outs, and engage effectively with industry and investors.
The centre is not intended to conduct subject-led research or fund studentships; instead, it acts as an enabling platform to foster a quantum-enabled economy through skills development, national collaboration, and responsible, inclusive innovation.
