Summary: Supports multi-site clinical studies and trials focused on prevention and treatment of childhood asthma in economically disadvantaged urban populations.
The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) at NIH is forecasting support for the Childhood Asthma in Urban Settings Clinical Research Network (CAUSE). This initiative funds collaborative, multi-site clinical studies and trials aimed at preventing and treating asthma among economically disadvantaged children in urban settings—populations where the disease burden is highest. The network’s objectives include developing and testing innovative strategies for asthma prevention, identifying and evaluating new treatment targets (including those for type 2 low asthma), and investigating the risk relationship between upper and lower airway diseases. Systems biology approaches will be used to identify disease endotypes for targeted therapies.
