--- ## Description The Civil Infrastructure Systems (CIS) program funds fundamental and transformative research on the design, operation, and management of civil infrastructure systems. The program aims to foster the development of smart, sustainable, and resilient communities at local, national, and international levels. CIS emphasizes a systems approach, considering the interactions and interconnections among distributed infrastructure components (such as transportation, power, water, and pipelines) rather than focusing on individual elements. The program encourages disruptive, cross-disciplinary ideas that open new research frontiers and significantly broaden or transform the civil infrastructure research community. Priority areas include novel system and service design, system integration, big data analytics, and the interplay between social, technological, and infrastructure systems.
