    Description

The Climate & Global Change Postdoctoral Program is managed by UCAR’s Cooperative Programs for the Advancement of Earth System Science (CPAESS) for NOAA’s Climate Program Office. It provides independent research opportunities for recently graduated PhDs, pairing fellows with mentoring scientists at U.S. universities, research institutions, or federal agencies. Projects may be disciplinary or interdisciplinary, spanning physical, social, and integrated sciences.

Research areas include climate variability and impacts, freshwater, oceans, carbon and other biogeochemical cycles, energy, decarbonization, Earth system modeling, and coupled human–Earth system processes. The program seeks to improve understanding, prediction, planning, and management of a changing Earth system, including how communities experience climate change and pursue low-carbon, resilient, sustainable, and equitable futures. Climate-health, climate communication, education, and mitigation or adaptation planning research can fit the program. Research questions need not focus on the United States.
