The Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History offers annual short-term fellowships to undergraduate students for original research in American history. Fellows use the renowned Gilder Lehrman Collection—comprising over 87,000 primary source documents—as well as other New York City archives. The program encourages research on all aspects of American history, with special recognition for projects on Abraham Lincoln, slavery and abolition, and early American history. Fellows are expected to conduct their research in New York City, visit the Institute's office, and submit a report summarizing their findings and documenting the archival collections consulted.
