This fellowship is designed for psychiatry residents from diverse backgrounds or those committed to serving minority and vulnerable populations. The program provides a one-year experience combining professional development, leadership training, mentorship, and a field placement of up to 15 hours per month in settings serving underrepresented groups (such as American Indians/Native Alaskans, Asian Americans/Native Hawaiians/Native Pacific Islanders, Blacks/African Americans, Hispanics/Latinos, LGBTQ, and religious minorities). Fellows participate in APA Annual Meetings, exclusive networking events, and APA/APAF governance activities to advance culturally competent psychiatric care.
