--- ## Description The Community Engagement program from the Keith Campbell Foundation for the Environment funds organizations that empower individuals to actively participate in shaping their communities, with a strong emphasis on equity and serving low-income and vulnerable populations. The program supports efforts that increase access to quality education, economic opportunity, food security, community justice, and affordable housing, aiming for both immediate impact and systemic change. Priority is given to organizations working to advance racial equity and to those whose leadership reflects the communities they serve. --- ## Due Dates - January 23, 2026: Unsolicited Grants Program — Cycle 1 (2026) full proposal deadline (5 pm Pacific Time) - July 31, 2026: Unsolicited Grants Program — Cycle 2 (2026) full proposal deadline (5 pm Pacific Time) No late submissions or extensions are allowed. --- ## Funding Amount - Maximum request: $25,000 per unsolicited grant - Typical awards: $1,000 to $25,000 (most recent cycle: 47 out of 92 grants were at the $25,000 maximum) - Grant period: Funds are expected to be expended within 12 months of receipt - Grants are generally one-time awards; renewals are rare and determined case-by-case --- ## Eligibility - Only U.S.-registered 501(c)(3) public charitable organizations (including educational institutions and government agencies) and fiscally sponsored projects are eligible - Organization must **never have received a Campbell Foundation grant** (previous grantees are not eligible for unsolicited grants) - Priority given to organizations that: - Have operated for at least 5 years - Have operating budgets between $1 million and $12 million - Have at least five funders giving $5,000+ each - Have at least five board members - Focus programming on racial equity and/or Black, Indigenous, and other communities of color - Leadership reflects the served community - Program focus must align with one of the Foundation’s priority areas, including Community Engagement - Special interest in organizations operating in: - California: Fresno, Kern, Kings, San Francisco, or Tulare counties - Maryland: Dorchester, Wicomico, Worcester, or Somerset counties - Pennsylvania: Lancaster and York counties - Exclusions: No unsolicited grants for academic/medical research, disease prevention, animal rescue, ecosystem restoration, films, hospitals, individuals, plastic pollution, single-species conservation, and several other areas (see Application Process for full list) --- ## Application Process 1. **Review Priorities & Eligibility:** Ensure your organization meets the eligibility criteria and aligns with program priorities. 2. **Eligibility Checklist:** Complete the [eligibility checklist](https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/unsoleligibilitychecklist) to confirm eligibility. 3. **Prescreen Tool:** (Recommended) Use the [Prescreen Tool](https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/8TZ32SV) to gauge your likelihood of success. 4. **Proposal Submission:** Submit a full proposal through the Foundation’s grants management system.
