Summary: Funds rural and tribal North Dakota communities to develop collaborative gardens that improve health, nutrition, and community well-being through sustainable, evidence-based practices.
The Community Gardens Project, part of North Dakota’s Rural Health Transformation Program, supports the creation and enhancement of community gardens in rural and tribal communities. The initiative aims to address food insecurity, promote healthy eating, increase physical activity, foster mental well-being, and strengthen community connections. Successful projects must incorporate six core components: engaging key stakeholders, developing a solid plan, selecting accessible locations, establishing supportive policies, publicizing the initiative, and preparing the site. Emphasis is placed on sustainability, collaboration, and measurable improvements in health, nutrition, and community well-being.
