This program provides cooperative agreement funding to assist Alaska Native regional and village corporations, federally recognized Tribes in Alaska, Alaska Native nonprofit associations, and inter-tribal consortia with addressing contamination on lands conveyed under the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA) of 1971. Many of these lands were contaminated prior to transfer due to activities such as fuel storage, mining, and waste handling, posing health risks and impacting community resources. Funding supports site assessment, remediation, and related community outreach and involvement. The program aims to address contamination primarily caused by federal agencies or their agents prior to land conveyance.
